ABOUT THIS SARAPE – FALSA BLANKET:
The Sarapes are authentic Mexican blankets made by hand using a woven loom. This traditional technique is practiced all over Mexico with patterns that differ and have unique meaning for each ethnic culture. The design of this particular one is known as Falsa.
The Falsa is an authentic Mexican blanket traditionally woven by hand on a loom. Known for its soft texture and relaxed weave, it became especially popular along the Baja California coast during the ’60s and ’70s, quickly turning into a must-have for surfers and campers travelling between Mexico and California. Despite its name “Falsa,” meaning “false” in Spanish, there is nothing fake about it. Originally inspired by other traditional styles, the Falsa developed its own iconic look and became a true symbol of beach and surf culture.
